Author Spotlight – Beck Grey

Please help me welcome Beck Grey to the LGBTQIA Author Spotlight. Beck comes to us from Pittsburgh, PA.

Describe your books/your writing for the readers.
Low angst, contemporary LGBTQIA+ spicy romance

What is something that makes you unique (personally or within your writing)?
I’m horrible at questions like this. I honestly can’t think of one thing that makes me unique. That doesn’t mean I think I’m worthless or anything negative. I’m just not “unique”.

Tell us about your writing process. Where do your ideas come from? Do you plan/plot or totally wing it?
I’m a cross between a plotter and someone who flies by the seat of their pants. I start out with a plot but then the characters take over and we make a hard left or two and it’s all plot, what plot?

What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
That’s something I was taught from an early age by my parents. Say what you mean, mean what you say, and know that you can apologize for saying something hurtful, but you can never unsay it.

What is your favorite childhood book?
The Mummy Market, which is now out of print, unfortunately.

What is one of the best feelings in the world?
A hug from someone you want to have a hug from, who truly wants to be hugging you.

If animals could talk, which would be the rudest?
Hyenas. They just seem like jerks.

What’s a sound you absolutely love?
The opening chords to the theme music of the Pride and Prejudice movie from 2005

Favorite snack while writing?
Cake. It’s my favorite snack while doing anything.

Favorite drink when writing?
Hot Earl Greyer tea with milk

Favorite scent?
Coconut

If someone is new to your writing, which book would you suggest they start with?
All of my books are interconnected standalones, and you can truly start anywhere and not be lost. But I suppose it would be Embrace Me, because that’s where we meet the entire friend group.
